FingerGuides™

Background behind FingerGuides™

Most of us were never taught touch-typing properly. FingerGuides™ is a simple, color-coded system that adds structure, confidence, and speed—without the guesswork.

Research Highlight
2.5%
As of 2019, only about 2.5 percent of U.S. high school graduates took a standalone keyboarding class
Research Highlight
44%
Even when typing courses were more common in 2000, only 44% of students took them
Research Highlight
<20%
Fewer than 20% reached typing proficiency—showing access alone was not enough
Research Highlight
80%
of people lack formal touch-typing training

The Problem

We weren’t taught wrong—we were barely taught at all. Research highlights that even when typing courses were more common, participation peaked at only 44%, and fewer than 20% reached proficiency. Today, formal keyboarding instruction is even less common. With little guidance on the keyboard, most learners fall back on hunt and peck, which slows them down and limits productivity.

What’s Missing

Learners—especially visual learners—need clear, consistent cues that link each finger to the correct keys so real muscle memory can form quickly and correctly. Research suggests that instruction alone has not been enough; learners need a method that makes correct movement easy to see and repeat.

Our Solution

FingerGuides maps each finger to its keys with simple color coding (on keycaps and soft finger sleeves). The visual + tactile pairing makes correct movement obvious and repeatable—so accuracy sticks and speed follows. It works on its own or alongside existing typing instruction and practice programs.

How FingerGuides helps you learn

  • Colors match finger → key. No guessing where your fingers belong.
  • Visual cues + light touch build muscle memory fast.
  • You can look at the keyboard for accuracy until memory follows.
  • Consistent reps → accuracy first; speed follows naturally.
